What are specific things that you learned about the Gospel Writers from the group presentations? I learned that Luke was not an eyewitness of Jesus. Matthew and John were two of the original twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. Mark was a follower of Jesus but was much younger when Jesus was in Jerusalem. Mark was only a teenager at the time, and his mother was said to provide her home as the meeting place for Jesus' disciples. Mark wrote down the observations of Peter, one of Jesus disciples later in his life. Luke was able to write his Gospel by spending time with Paul and other eye witnesses of Jesus through interviewing them about Jesus' performed miracles.

Based on class discussion, what were similarities you saw within the 4 Gospel readings? Of all 4 synoptic Gospels, Matthew and John provide more detailed second hand accounts of Jesus' life.

Based on class discussion, what were differences you saw within the 4 Gospel readings?

From information you gathered from the presentations and class discussions, which Gospel would you prefer to read and why? (Think about time period, first or second hand account, purpose, etc.) I would personally like to read the Book of Matthew. Since Matthew is most likely the first author of a Gospel, his writing may be more accurate. Matthew was writing about Jesus' life during the eyewitness period, meaning that he had a first hand account of Jesus' life and could use his own observations of Jesus. Because Matthew's purpose was to write for Jewish people and to convince them of Jesus' prophesied destiny as the Messiah, I think that his book would fit my needs to understand Jesus' life, as I am not Christian. I also think that because Matthew was an Apostle of Jesus, he understood the emotion behind every miracle and doing of Jesus better than a second hand account. Matthew's gospel seems to be the most accurate telling of Jesus' life.
